PELVIC INFLAMMATORY DISEASE – 2
Rolitetracycline (Reverin) 275 mg intravenously twice daily until able to
tolerate oral tetracycline (such as doxycycline 100 mg twice daily) for a total treatment period of 2 to 4 weeks
AND, IF PENICILLIN SENSITIVE N GONORRHOEA IS EXPECTED, Amoxycillin sodium 1 g intravenously every 6 hours until able to tolerate
oral amoxycillin 500 mg 3 times daily for a total treatment period of at least 10 days OR IF PPNG IS SUSPECTED OR IN AREAS WHERE PPNG IS HIGHLY ENDEMIC,
Ceftriaxone (Rocephin) 1 g intravenously daily for 7 days OR
Spectinomycin (Trobicin) 4 g intramuscularly in a single dose (divided between 2 gluteal sites)
AND, IF ANAEROBIC INFECTION IS SUSPECTED, metronidazole 500 mg intravenously (or 1 g by rectal suppository) three
times daily until able to tolerate oral metronidazole 400 mg three times daily for a total treatment period of at least 10 days.
Cefoxitin (Mefoxin) 2 g intravenously 6 hourly can be substituted for ceftriaxone and metronidazole since cefoxitin is active against PPNG and anaerobes.
